Prof. Barbara Di Eugenio has been awarded a new grant by the National Science Foundation (Advanced Learning Technology program). The project, titled "A Collaborative Dialogue Agent for Peer Learning Interactions", seeks to build a computational model of effective episodes within peer learning dialogues and to embody that model in KSC-PaL, an artificial agent that can collaborate with a human partner via natural-language dialogues. KSC-PaL is intended to help Computer Science students develop abstract, generalizable knowledge about data structures and algorithms. This project is a collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, PA), and will bring $520,000 over three years, equally split between the two institutions.
