October 31, 2008: Research Professor Dan J. Bernstein leads team that cracks McElice Crypto System.

As reported by Science Daily (link to story http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/10/081028132303.htm) Research Prof. Daniel J. Bernstein was one of the leaders of an international team that cracked a crypto system proposed 30 years ago by coding theorist Robert McEliece. McEliece's system is of interest today because it is not believed to be vulnerable to attack by quantum computers. The work of the cracking team shows that if it is to be used, then larger key sizes must be used than was previously believed.
