I am from Osaka, Japan. I lived in Japan for 25 years, and I have been in Chicago for 3 years now. Time goes by so fast..... The study of other languages and cultures has always been of great interest to me. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Kyoto Women's University, Kyoto, Japan. My BA thesis was on Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Blithedale Romance",which dealt with the social situation during the mid-19th century America.
Now, I go to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) majoring in Computer Science in the college of Engineering.
I recently returned back from a trip to Japan this holiday season. I traveled to many places in Japan via the bullet train, called the Shinkansen, which travels at a maximum speed of 300km/h. My favorite place was the village of Shirakawa-go in Gifu prefecture. This village was designated as a World Heritage Site. The houses in this village are characterized by a large and steep thatch roof. The roof resembles hands folded in prayer.
