March 1, 2011: Mayank Lahiri's work wins first place at the UIC Image of Research competition

Computer Science PhD student Mayank Lahiri wins first place in the UIC Image of Research competition with his submission of the image of StripeSpotter at work. StripeSpotter is a program for automatic identification of individual zebras from photographs that Mayank has developed as part of his project for the Field Computational Population Biology class in Spring 2009.

StripSpotter is now in use at the Ol'Pejeta Nature Conservancy and Mpala Research Centre in Kenya, and is available to the general public to download and use for free:
