Abstract:

Debuggers are an incredibly useful tool for software engineers. They can provide insights into program runtime behavior that can be difficult to obtain otherwise. Their current ubiquity in modern day integrated development environments (IDE) solidifies their place as an indispensable tool for any non-trivial software project.

This talk will provide an in-depth tutorial on how to debug a program with the GNU Debugger (gdb). Additionally, we will discuss how debuggers work at both the hardware and operating system level; and look at the implementation of an incredibly simple debugger.
