October 4, 2013: Congratulations to UIC Computer Science Professor Tom Moher and collaborators on new $1.2 million NSF grant

Congratulations to Computer Science Professor Tom Moher, Professor Joel Brown (UIC Biology), and Jim Slotta (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto) on a new $1,236,076 National Science Foundation grant entitled "Community knowledge construction in the instrumented classroom" running from September 2013 to August 2017.

Scientific communities collectively construct knowledge. Modern pedagogies seek to situate students in such communities, and digital environments to support the construction of knowledge bases growing out of those communities have been available for two decades but are not broadly used. This project will investigate new approaches to the organization of knowledge construction in classrooms and the design and evaluation of embedded, tangible, and mobile technologies to support the construction and use of digital knowledge artifacts.
