Computer Science PhD student Marco Maggioni receives FMC Technologies Fellowship award.

Computer Science PhD student Marco Maggioni has been selected as the winner of the 2014-2015 FMC Technologies , Inc. Fellowship Award , a $20,000 award for the academic year. Fellowships are awarded to outstanding students with preference given to candidates for the Master?s in Business Administration, Engineering, or related fields. The FMC Technologies, Inc. Educational Fund was originally established as the Link-Belt Educational Fund on Feb. 15, 1963, when a 1897 University of Illinois alumnus Bert A. Gayman donated 10,000 shares of Link-Belt Company (later acquired by FMC) common stock to the University of Illinois Foundation.

Marco's research is in parallel algorithms and computer architectures, with special focus on sparse linear algebra and convex optimization on GPUs, with applications to computational biology. Marco is a member of the Computational Population Biology Lab at UIC.
