The UIC Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL) will introduce SAGE2?, the next-generation SAGE?, at the annual IEEE/ACM SC14 International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis in New Orleans, Louisiana, November 16-21, 2014.

Like SAGE middleware, SAGE2 is a software framework that enables local and remote collaboration on scalable resolution display walls (from single monitors to a wall of tiled displays) by sharing diverse media content, including 2D and 3D visualizations and applications. Unlike SAGE, SAGE2 is browser-based and integrates cloud services, a multi-resolution image viewer, a stereoscopic image viewer, mirrored portals, and network streaming of high-resolution imagery. One major benefit of browser-based software is that there is no installation requirement for users and it is inherently cross-platform. A user simply needs an up-to-date web browser on the device he/she wishes to use as an interaction tool for the wall. SAGE2 services are essentially brought to the user through the Cloud.

SAGE2 will be introduced to the SAGE global user community and potential users during a SC14 Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) session. SAGE2 demonstrations will take place in the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) research booth on the exhibition floor. Following SC14, a beta version of the software will be made available to early adopters for trials.

SAGE2 is being developed by the Laboratory for Advanced Visualization & Applications (LAVA) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and by EVL at UIC, with major funding provided by NSF award # ACI-1441963. SAGE and SAGE2 are trademarks of the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.
