Graduate Public Service Internship (GPSI) Program Announcement

The Graduate Public Service Internship (GPSI) Program has been established in the Civil and Materials Engineering (CME) Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 2013 for students pursuing their Masters of Science degree in Civil Engineering. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is the government agency sponsoring these internships.

The GPSI Program is a two year internship that provides graduate students with the opportunity to simultaneously begin a professional career while earning a MS degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). In addition to having the opportunity to gain valuable professional work experience and high quality, marketable graduate education, your benefits will include a yearly stipend of $30,382 and a tuition waiver. The work schedule will consist of 20 hours per week during the academic year and full time during the summer at IDOT. It is anticipated that five internships will be available this time.

GPSI is a competitive application process. Candidates will be selected based on academic performance (GPA ‚ 3.2 and GRE scores), submission of application package*, and interviews with IDOT personnel. The deadline for submitting the application package is July 18th. The interviews of the selected candidates will occur at end of July or first week of August. The final selection of interns will be made by IDOT.
