Sept 3: Correction for the last class example problem. Number of distinct solutions to the equation x1 + x2 + x3 = 11 where x1, x2, and x3 are NON-NEGATIVE (not POSITIVE as it was stated in class) integers. The posted lecture notes contain solutions for both versios of the problem.
Aug 29: Clarifications and changes for Homework 1. Question 4(a) clarification: assume that the players are indistinguishable. Question 6(b)ii has changed: the person now has only 2 pairs of friends who hate each other. The hating is constrained WITHIN a pair, that is, of the two pairs, each person just hates the other person in the pair.
The new version of the homework has been posted.
Aug 25: Homework 1 is out. Due September 8
BEFORE class.
Aug 23: Required texbooks for the course have been changed. The textbooks are:
