Cs 528 - Project 1

The " Four Elements Museum"

Goal of The Project

The goal of the project is the creation of a simple immersive environment that should have one or more rooms with 'artwork' on the walls and 'sculptures' that you can walk around. It could have 'active' sculpture like fountains or mobiles and it should have some way to get information about the exhibits.
The Museum could be layed out in normal human scale, or perhaps the items are much larger or smaller than human scale, making people easily navigate through the space. For the exhibits there should be a theme linking all them. You can use models you find on the web (as long as they are properly cited) but you will get more credit for creating your own rooms and models.

Theme

As you can easily figure out from the title that the them of my museum is the Four Elements theme (Four elements are fire, earth, air and water) and all the exhibits, both 'artworks' and 'sculptures' are referred completely to it.
To make simpler the life of visitors I grouped things related to the same element in the same place (n.d.r. Locality Principle). I do not create maps inside the museum because I think ( ..I know I am wrong...) that the structure of the museum is rather simple ( as you can see in the Figure 1 below ).

Museum Plant

The museum is formed by a series of rooms and one open space:

  • Garden: this represents the outside of the museum and in particular is focused on the frontal part of it;
  • Hall: this small room is the entrance of the museum, typically in 'real' museums here you can (must) by the ticket; for this museum I choose that is free, so you can't find a place to buy the ticket;
  • Main Room: it makes the link between all the other rooms;
  • Elements rooms: each of these rooms is dedicated to one element and it contains 'just' four artwork, three pictures and a sculpture. Pictures were founded on the web ( see Resources ) while sculptures are a handmade model reproducing some small sculptures shown in the movie "The fifth elements" by Luc Besson.
    Room can be reached from the list below:

Figure 1 shows the plant of the museum. The starting point for the visit is the garden, then visitor can make want he or she wants.

Navigation
A visitor can navigate the scene moving around, jumping, flying and shooting. He or she can also turn him or her head up and down to focus on floor and roof.

Interaction
Interaction is limited to collision with objects and museum, so a visitor cannot pass through walls, roof or floor. However, the visitor is under the gravity so he or she can not fly easily and if he or she launch something in tha air this falls ( and maybe bounces ).
