Scottie Pippen

Scottie Pippen has been one of the greatest and most dominate forwards in the history of the game. He has been the other more quiet half of the Jordan and Pippen duo. He has been for so long in the shadow of Jordan that not until Jordan's year an a half absence did people see him for the truly great player and leader he is. But like Bird this great player also had a humble beganing.

Pippen was born on September 20, 1965 in the small town of Hamburg, Arkansas(population 3100). He was the youngest of twelve children and along with his parents they all shared a two bedroom house. Though Pippen never thought of his family as poor. Pippen went thourgh high school as a good basketball player, but nothing that people would consider to be college level. But as a freshman Arch Jones, then assistant coach of Central Arkansas, saw some potential in him that no one else saw and decided to keep him around as "Assistant Manager." His job was to sweep the gym up, wash the players clothes, etc.

It was a good thing they kept him around, his potential started to shine through when he would practice with the team. He instantaneously became their team leader with close to ten rebounds and around twenty points a game in his last three years at Centeral Arkansas. Pippen was drafted fifth overall in the 1987 draft by The Seattle Super Sonics, who then dealt the draft rights to the Bulls immediatly that day for draft rights to Olden Polynice, a 1988 or 1989 draft choice option and the option to exchange 1989 first round draft choices. Back then it might have seemed like an even trade, but today we know the Bulls got the deal of a life time.

From the moment Pippen began he improved the team. Four years later he along with his teamates won the first title in the Chicago Bulls organization. They would then win titles in 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, and probably would have one more in 1994, it wasn't for the terrible call made near the conclusion of game five of the New York series. Pippen has been the one constant in the team for the last ten years, we saw that come into play during Jordan's year and a half absence. You saw how truly dominate of a player he was that year(1993-94), and proved the Bulls were not a team that was built completly around Jordan.

Pippen also shows his dominance through all the achivements and awards he has recieved other than six NBA World Championships. He has been named to All-NBA First Team three times(1994, 1995, and 1996), All-NBA Second Team two times(1992 and 1997), and All-NBA Third Team once(1991). He has also been named to six All-Defensive First Teams(1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997) and All-Defensice Second Team once(1991). He has also participated in seven NBA All-Star Games(1990,1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997) and he was the MVP of the 1994 All-Star Game. Lastly he was a member of two gold medal-winning United States Oylmpic Basketball Teams(1992 and 1996).
