Books
- [Hjelm 2001] Creating the Semantic Web with RDF by Johan Hjelm, 2001, Wiley. As the name indicates, this book provides a sound (but not in-depth) analysis of RDF and a vast range
of related issues, as related to the Semantic Web (Recommended).
- [Abiteboul 1999] Data on the Web: From Relations to Semistructured Data and XML. Abiteboul,
Serge / Buneman, Peter / Suciu, Dan Morgan Kaufmann Publishers, 1999, ISBN: 155860622X. This
book is about XML and its querying languages. It adopts a database perspective and is about concepts, not implementations.
- [Delobel 1995] Databases: From Relational to Object-oriented Systems. Delobel, Lécluse,
Richard. International Thomson Computer Press, 1995. ISBN 1-85032-124-8. This is an interesting book. Of particular interest are the first chapters on data modeling.
- [Lochovsky 1982] Data Models. Tsichritzis D C, Lochovsky F H, Prentice-Hall, 1982. This book is one of the best references for data modeling, which has widthstood the test of time.
- [Sowa 2000] Knowledge Representation by
John F. Sowa, Brooks/Cole 2000.
This is a new edition of a classic book on the subject of ontologies and related issues.
- [Fensel 2001] Ontologies: A Silver Bullet for Knowledge Management and Electronic Commerce
by Dieter Fensel, 2001, Springer. This is a very recent book on ontologies by one
of the main people behind the Semantic Web.
Surveys
- [Hull 1987] Semantic Database Modeling: Survey, Applications, and Research Issues. Richard
Hull and Roger King, ACM Computing Surveys, September 1987, pp. 201-260.
