CS 100 - Computer Literacy, Spring 2005

Lab 4

Alternative location

While the CS 100 Swiki is having a problem, you can complete this lab at Georgia Tech CS 1315 Swiki. Hopefully our own Swiki will be back up and running soon. Georgia Tech's CS 1315 is doing similar things as we are doing in CS 100. In fact, CS 100 is patterned after what has been done in Georgia Tech's CS 1315. You may wish to look around the CS 1315 Swiki to see what other courses are doing.

Original Write-up

This lab assignment will have you upload an image to your own web page on the CS 100 Swiki that you created in lab 3.

Editing Rules

Swiki has its own simple editing rules. To link to a page, surround the page's title by *s (i.e. *My Page*); if the page does not already exist, a create button appears next to the new title; click on it to create the new page. The extensive list below documents all the editing features; these features are meant to enhance your use, but you do not need them to get started.

To add an image to the Swiki, you must first upload that image using the Upload operation of the swiki.
  1. The first step is to get to the page on which you wish to display the image.
  2. The next step is to click the Upload button which is just below the Edit button on the left side of the page.
  3. Then using the browse button on the new page, find the image on the local machine.
  4. Once the image has been located, click the upload button to transfer the image to the swiki.

To display an image, you must create a link/reference to the file containing the image. To create a link, put it between *s.

Lab Assignment 4

Due: Monday 2/14/2005 by 12:00 noon

To the page that you created in the CS 100 Swiki for lab 3, uplad and add an image. This image can be an image that you have created or found on the web. If the image was found on the web, include the URL to the site the originally contained the image.

You must clearly identify that the image is being used for lab 4! The best way to do this is to put a heading before the picture with the text something like Image for Lab 4. Remember the exclaimation point ! is used in a Swiki to specify a heading.

Your image must be uploaded to the swiki! Do not simply at a reference to an image on another web page. In looking at the page you may not notice the differences, but the TA's will check the code that created the page and can tell that way.
