I am looking for motivated students who are interested in pursuing a PhD degree in computer science at the UIC, with specialization in machine learning.

To work with me?

	If you would like to work with me, I would like to first know about your interest/enthusiasm in research and your technical background (math, statistics, computer science, programming, and writing). Expected background. My research in machine learning lies between theory and application. Ideally, you are supposed to have a strong background in computer science or mathematics/statistics, or both. So both CS majors and math/stats majors are encouraged to apply. Minimum requirements for all applicants include familiarity with linear algebra and at least one programming language (Matlab, Python, C++, Java, ...), good writing and speaking skills in English, and independence in problem solving.

	To help me know more about your background, please send me the following items via email (PDF or plain text, or URL to a website containing these items).
	A copy of your CV; A copy of your undergraduate transcript, AND (if applicable) your graduate transcript (a list in the email, or a scanned copy is enough); Up to three representative publications written in English if applicable; TOEFL/IELTS/GRE score if applicable; A brief description of your research interests, and your background (coursework, projects, etc) in machine learning, or related areas.
	I would recommend that you contact me before submitting your formal application to the university, although this is not mandatory. Some of my research projects can be found here and here. But I am surely open in research. So please read my publications and see my interest in the past three years.

Financial aid

	Detailed information can be found here. If you would like to be supported as Research Assistant (RA) with me, it will be necessary to contact me. I currently only have RA positions for PhD students.

	Students from mainland China can also apply for scholarships from the China Scholarship Council (CSC) to study PhD at UIC.
