10. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3

Red Alert 3. Now this is an interesting game. I played the 2nd one when I was kid but I put the 3rd one since it is modern and with nice graphics. Out of all RTS I played I find Red Alert 3 the best fit since the gameplay loop is not extremely simple but also is not as complex as Star Craft II. Good game with plenty of fun to be had.

9. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Let me just premise this that I am not a Star Wars fan at all. This game however is extremely good! Despite some technical issues and its rather old graphics it is still probably the best Star Wars game you will get. If you are a fan of Star Wars or RPGs, seriously, go play it.

8. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Not much to say here, a lot of people know this game and since I like RPGs it shouldn’t come as surprise to see it on my top 10 list. Being Polish makes this game even better since the voice acting is really good, plus the whole theme of the game is similar to what would medieval Poland look like. I absolutely love the story and characters as well. On top of that, I also read and really enjoyed the original books. Nothing more to add, it is a great game!

7. Hyperdimension Neptunia

Finally, we got into my guilty pleasure. Yes, it is JRPG and yes, it is very anime like. That being said, the characters are charming and interactions between them are great. It is a grindy game but I honestly don’t mind it at all. The biggest uniqueness of this game is definitely the humor and references. It is supposed to mirror companies, products as well as behaviors of game industry in real life. There is a ton of references so it is hard to catch them all for sure. All I can say is that main girls reflect companies that worked on the game or consoles like ps3 or xbox360 and so on. Give it a try!

6. Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen

I wasn’t sure if I should put this game here or TES V Skyrim. I enjoyed both but the combat system is way better in Dragon’s Dogma hands down. Fighting big mythological beasts, breaking their parts, being able to attach yourself to a part to stab it. It is extremely good game and I feel like not many people know about it. I seriously hope the 2nd Dragon’s Dogma will come out at some point with bigger world and better graphics, it would be amazing. Until then, I will be replaying this one few times for sure.

5. Divinity: Original Sin II

We are getting into the heavy hitters now. Divinity Original Sin II is an absolutely outstanding video game period. The story is long, it differs depending on origin characters, there is ton of quests, multiple ways to cheat the system, amazing soundtrack, plenty of viable builds, great voice acting. I could go longer with the features but suffice to say there is a lot of content if you chose to do it. The combat itself is turn-based and it is pretty complex and offers a lot of options to go about it for sure. It is very easy to lose yourself while playing this game plus it is very replayable.

4. Agarest: Generations of War

We derail a little bit here. You probably ask yourself; what is this anime game? Well I have to say that this game is extremely anime for sure. It also is really grindy. Like VERY grindy without DLC. So why is it so high on the list? Two things mostly, soundtrack and combat. Soundtrack is absolutely amazing, the flow of music paired up with combat is just great. Speaking of combat, it has the best turn-based combat I ever saw in any game. It revolves around basic abilities characters have that you can switch and customize a bit with weapons as well as spells themselves, but the interesting part is combining the basic abilities into cool looking combo abilities! It looks and feels amazing when you see your 3 characters combine power together and pummel down enemies with super cool combo. And don’t get me started on the EX abilities that are the strongest character-based abilities and yes, they can also combo with other EX abilities to have this amazing super combo EX ability. That is it. Combat’s combo system just won me over by itself.

3. Terraria

Oh boy, here we go. Terraria. It looks simple, but believe me it is not just some 2D copy of a sandbox game. It features tons of weapons, like a lot of them. On top of that you have different “classes”, or to be more specific types of weapons. You can have different accessories too so build wise and weapon wise the game has a lot to offer. It does not have leveling though, like you would have in majority of RPGs but instead it has progression of weapons. You defeat bosses and mine resources to progress the game and get better arsenal. And there is also mod support, so you can customize, extend or change completely your playthrough. Not to mention that the game is very replayable. As of right now I am sitting on 960 hours recorded on steam and will for sure have more and more as years go by. The main feature of the game are for sure boss fights, there is a lot of them and they are pretty challenging so be ready!

2. Dark Souls

Dark Souls had to be number 2. The combat system is unique and very rewarding when you actually beat the boss. It is also cool that normal enemies are not just simply defeated by mashing a button. Music is great, bosses are great and overall feel of the game is very fun and satisfying. There is quite a bit of build variety too so your playthrough will feel differently depending on the weapons you use plus is makes for a great setup to replay the game again. But the cherry on top is definitely the randomizer mod for the first game. It replaces enemies, items and bosses around so you will be getting different weapons and items at different points in time and you will be fighting different enemies and bosses in different areas. It makes the game so much more enjoyable plus it might make it more difficult depending on what you get. I could probably put any souls like game here but just for having randomizer, Dark Souls has to be on this list.

1. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

And now onto my number 1, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. This game is absolutely amazing. Soundtracks are one of my favorites for sure. Combat system is fun and rewarding. Characters are unique, they have different personalities and interactions between them are great. The main thing here for me is the story for sure. It is spread throughout the 4 games and oh boy is it worth it. The were so many moments where I felt sad, happy, angry or like a badass. It is incredible to be able to see group of people who care for each other build the bonds throughout the school year and see them in real combat later on. On top of that, you will be able to see them when they grew up a bit in the last two games. Just being able to follow this tale from start to finish is the greatest journey I was part of. Seriously, go play this game right now.
