There is no question that the core values of our membership build on top of the services provided by the Society. We should enhance our services in:
- Member access to technical contents and activities. This includes and is not limited to more publications on the latest technologies and trends, online webinar/tutorials, electronic resources for learning and career development. While fully inclusion of digital library access in basic membership package is still not practical, we should make the digital library access affordable for junior students, emerging area members, and members with hardships. We should also consider options to offer tiered digital library access to members.
- Society support for geographic unit activities. More support should be provided to our geographic units, specifically professional and student branch chapters to help their activities organization. Our chapter chairs and other geographic unit volunteers interact with members directly to provide technical and social meetings, networking events, career fairs, and much more. They should be strongly backed up by the Society for such contributions with more resources allocated.
- Synergies of our technical and geographic services. Our premier conferences are organized and recognized worldwide for their high quality, elite attendees and wide geographic span. Taking these advantages in conjunction with our global presence of geographic units, we should foster the synergies of technical and geographic services. The Member Visit Program (MVP) is just one good example of such synergies, with better implementation such endeavors will be of great benefits to our members.
- Volunteering opportunities. We should streamline the process for members to volunteer for the Society. Everyone who is interested in volunteering should have their voices heard and considered. We should also be creative in engaging members in various types of volunteering roles, be it technical or organizational. The Society could establish programs to help members build technical capacity, leadership, or both through volunteering.
