Xun Luo, Ph.D.

Born and raised in China, I attended graduate school in Chicago, Illinois with the help of merit-based scholarships. After obtaining doctoral degree in Computer Science, I first worked as a research staff member at Motorola Labs and am currently at Qualcomm Research, based in San Diego, California.

I have been a long time member of the IEEE and its Computer Society, started as a student member, then member and senior member. The experience and benefits I enjoyed from these memberships led me into volunteering. On the organizational side, my first volunteer role was Computer chapter chair of the IEEE San Diego Section in 2008, a position I continue to hold until now. As a section executive committee member, I was elected into the Section Chair position for the term of 2011-2012, during which I led the section and its UCSD student branch to win Region 6 Outstanding Section and Outstanding Student Branch awards respectively. I served as the Region 6 coordinator of Computer Society Member and Geographic Activities Board (MGAB) Member Development Committee (MDC) in 2010, and Region 6 Coordinator of MGAB Geographic Unit Operations Committee (GUOC) in 2011. This year I am serving as the GUOC Vice-Chair, and a member of the Technical and Conference Activities Board's Conference Advisory Committee (CAC). On the technical side, I am both a Computer Society Distinguished Visitor (2010-2012) and an ACM Distinguished Speaker, and the organizing committee and program committee member of multiple IEEE conferences.

I feel proud of being a member of the Society and would like to contribute to it more through volunteering work. And the past experiences at chapter, section, regional and global levels equipped me with the confidence to do so. I am running for board of governors position with the motivation to help better make our strategic plans, and execute such plans in the Societie's operations. Please find on this website my positions on various issues I deem as important. As a voter and a peer member, please always do not hesitate to share your valuable opinions with me. My contact information is under "Connections".

It's our society and let's make it better together.
